Week 4: Technology Empowers Teaching and Learning.
- Skill-Building Websites For Reading/Writing Skills and Technology enhanced Lesson Plans.
Hi everyone!
I took great advantage of the readings this week. I can assert that lots of my teaching problems are getting solutions. With all these readings and websites, I found ways and means to motivate the students and improve in them speaking skills. The materials such as e.books (http://iteslj.org/TechniquesMikulecky-OnlineChildrenslit.html) and many other useful websites are there for free. With e.books it is very easy to motivate students and gain their interest in reading. The problem of having no money for expensive books is solved on the spot. Through them reading, writing and speaking and even writing skills find improvement. The learner just choose a book he wants, read and share with whom he wants.
The second reading I did, explains how extensive reading, stressing on vocabulary mastery can develop the teaching of EFL ((http://iteslj.org/lesson/Liang-ExtensiveReading.html). This is very interesting for my students because they do not have interesting books available for their reading. They can make it possible by using the e.books . The only hindrance to that technique is that they do not have enough time for English in classroom; they have three hours per week. The hindrance make it also feasible in the sense that they will spent their time outside classroom, reading in English.
The second assignment of week 4 I did, was to think about an issue of my class. There are many issues but I write about the poor expression of the learners in oral conversation due to their shyness and also to the context which does not help them develop speaking skills. We are a French speaking country that impact a lot on English language learning.
Finally, I was excited to create my own lesson plan involving technology using the template provided by our instructor Courtney. I share it with all the participants on Nicenet. This project step 3 is like the summary of the whole week.
I am so grateful. Many experiences occurred and many changes have already taken place in my way of teaching. I gain much from the online work together. I am so motivated to learn more.
Let say bye-bye to week 4 and welcome to week five.
Great job, Bernadette!
